Jesus and Christianity Through the Ages ~ BSTH232

The role of Jesus has always been central in the development and spread of Christianity. While some recent analysis has called into question the historicity of the Jesus of the New Testament, the overwhelming evidence from Scripture and Christian history supports the orthodox view of the Jesus of history, who is the Christ of faith. This course investigates the key issues of the current "Jesus debate" and views them in light of nearly twenty centuries of literary, artistic, and archaeological evidence. Leading orthodox scholarship will be paralleled with New Quest and revisionist approaches in the context of source analysis from first and second century evidence. Recommended prerequisite: BSTH 121. 3 hours.
